Minion Cakepop Tutorial Step by Step!!

Right now I love everything Minions! They are just the cutest little villains. They make being bad adorable. I was so excited about the release of the movie last weekend! Honestly, my excitement exceeded that of my 7 year old and I must say, I have no shame in that. I was so excited that I thought it would be a great idea to make some Minion Cakepops to celebrate :) And because they turned out so darn cute I wanted to share a step by step so that everyone else could share in my enthusiasm.

For my Minions I chose yellow cake, but you can choose whatever flavor you like best. The first step is to follow my link to the recipe for a basic cake pop. Then shape each pop into a cylinder. Some can be short and fat others long and skinny. The fun thing about making these little guys is that they all come in different sizes and you can make them each with their own personality.

After following the link and making the basic cakepop and shaping them you need a few things to create them. You will need to melt 3 colors of chocolate wafers. Yellow, Blue and Black.

You will also need the following.......

Candy Eyes (Hobby Lobby)
Fondant (Hobby Lobby)
Silver Luster Dust (Michaels)
toothpick
mini M&Ms
thin paint brush
and
a cake pop stick and 3 zip lock sandwich bags (forgot to add them, sorry)

Once you got all this stuff....let the fun begin :)

For the bottom of the overalls I dipped about 1/3 of the cakeball into the blue chocolate.
I really should have painted my nails for this, but oh well....

Next I gently pushed the stick into about the middle of the pop.

When the blue side hardened I carefully dipped the top of the pop in the yellow chocolate and rolled and rotated so that the yellow and blue meet and until there was no gap between the two colors.

After the chocolate hardens it will look like this. Hopefully yours will be more defined, my cakepops are never perfect. Yummy but never perfect.

Then I made the outline for the top of the overalls.

Then quickly filled it in and smoothed out the chocolate with the toothpick. As much as possible.

Once the chocolate dried and hardened I did this to make it look smoother and it worked out pretty good. Remember, not perfect but yummy!

To finish off the overalls with some straps, I filled a ziplock bag (the snack size, because that's what I had) with blue chocolate and snipped off a little corner.

And with a very shaky hand I piped on the straps.

Then I outlined the eyes with the silver luster dust. I followed the package instructions that said to mix equal amounts of lemon extract and dust.

Once the outline dried I added the eyes by blotting the back with a little bit of chocolate.

And this is when I said, Awww....how cute!!!

Added the smile with black chocolate....

Added some buttons....

Put a little bit of chocolate on one side of the M&Ms and gave him some shoes....

I used the fondant to mold out a few accessories.

Next, with a toothpick I used a little bit of yellow chocolate as glue to the sides and back of his little head and added the goggle band.

And them some on the top for this hair...

And really, I should have done this at the very beginning after dipping the top half in yellow when it was not completely dry. But I forgot. So I added the hair later and it was a little hard to make it stick.

Then I piped on some arms and added the hands. But I forgot to take a picture of that but trust me, I did.

And Finally, I added a little "G" to his buckle, for Gru...

And here is my little Minion with his other Minion friends speaking their funny Minion language.
If you do take on this little project please leave me a comment, I would love to know how your little guys turn out. If not, leave me a comment anyways, I love chatting about whatever!

Buen Provecho!
